2014 review : second shooters + behind the scenes

In looking back over the year, I know my work is nothing without the kind and happy couples who fill the frames, but I also can’t imagine my job without the chums who shoot along with me.

I have one or even two other photographers at most every wedding, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of the same friends work with me for years. With all the opportunities and small catastrophes that can fit into a wedding day, knowing I have their help to brainstorm through challenges and carry gear and take fantastic care of my clients and the half-thousand other things they do is the greatest relief wrapped up with all the appreciation and confidence my dusk light- and 35mm-loving heart can muster. They make a good thing even better, and I’m so grateful to have them be part of my work.

So! To my second shooters (Paula + Ally + Nathan + Dan + Noah + Aaro) and assistants (Hannah + Carolyn + Meghan + Hanna), thank you. Thank you for your work and friendship, for going so many extra miles, and for being such excellent humans in the first place. : )

Earlier this summer I had some weddings included in these gorgeous magazines and it was such an exciting bit of joy for these couples and myself. There was Eleanor + Kevin’s playful summer celebration at Murray Hill in The Knot magazine,

…and Delia + Joe’s winter wedding at Union Station (with the legendary gold sequined dresses) in the Washingtonian B & G.the-knot-magazine009the-knot-magazine010

To be honest, these two weddings were some of my very favorite of yours. I loved the second one because of it’s warm colors (and those gold dresses were pretty splendid) and general classy look. And the first one? Wow. All the details, happy colors and summer wonderfulness. Perfect.

Paula is a wonderful friend + a fantastic photographer who’s helped me with my weddings for so long now. In between all our timelines and inside jokes, each new year of stories about her and Nik make me so happy to know them. They take care of each other as best as any true friends could, and this last golden day felt made just for them. #ethereal #vinaigrettes #yay
