Tennessee with a chum

They came to sit & dangle their feet off the edge of the world & after awhile they forgot everything but the good & true things they would do someday.” — Brian Andreas

Long distance friendships, despite the sad parts of missing someone often, can also be the sweetest things to have. Home for me is Virginia and for one of my best friends it’s Florida, and from faraway for almost 20 years now we’ve hogged the phone line from the dial-up internet or emailed, texted, Skyped, posted letters and anything else to make the time and distance between visits not feel not so far apart. Our favorite times are when we split the distance and meet somewhere new in between, and earlier this spring we arrived to the perfect middle-point of Chattanooga, TN for just that.

We stayed at the Chattanoogan Hotel which I’d highly recommend, and we ate at their restaurants for most meals too. Our favorite part of the trip was a park called Rock City, which is on top of a mountain but hard to describe — it’s made up of pathways winding through gorgeous rock formations and caves and bridges and a waterfall at the top with a view to see for miles the world.

Add that to wandering through the town and shops and $1 carousel rides by the river and another set of memories to hold close till the next time.
